Intel and Taiwan's MOEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs) have signed an agreement to set up a Moblin Enabling Center in Taiwan, according to Taiwan's Commercial Times. The joint project was announced by Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini during his visit to Taiwan on October 30.

Moblin is an open source project devoted to developing software and applications for Intel Atom processor-based MID (Mobile Internet Devices), netbooks, and in-vehicle infotainment systems. It is projected that the Taiwan Moblin Enabling Center, reportedly the first such facility worldwide, will be established by the end of the year and will begin services in February 2009 at the soonest.

In the initial phase, a group formed by the Department of Industrial Technology under the MOEA, III (Institute for Information Technology), and Taiwanese PC makers will attend to collaboration details and take charge of project promotion. It is expected that the collaboration project will also incorporate Intel's WiMAX initiative, according to the Economic Daily News report.
